Coach Tomic's FIU Summer Camps

Today we profile the summer camp of FIU. My girls have personally attended this camp and have not only sharpened their skills but have also had a great time. In addition to receiving great instructions and placing those instructions in motion through various drills and game play the facility is A+. The U.S. Century Bank Arena has six courts available to it which allows for ample space for instructions and play.

Coach Tomic made herself available to us to go into further detail about this years camp. I think you will be pleased with everything she is doing to help improve the ability of the players that attend the camp and at the same time give the campers a unique opportunity to learn and practice from many of the top players in our state.

SFVR: Tell us a bit about your Summer Camps this year?
TOMIC: At individual day camp, campers will be divided in groups by age and skill level. Two-session days will consist of station work followed by games and competition after lunch.

SFVR: Are you doing anything different this year?
TOMIC: Yes, this year we are adding a new classroom station where I will teach campers about importance of nutrition. Some of the things I will cover in that station is how to read food labels and how to make healthier food choices.

SFVR: What players will be available to assist you in teaching your various camps?
TOMIC: Most of my returning players will be working as camp coaches (Yarimar Rosa, Natalia Valentin, Isadora Rangel, Sabrina Gonzalez, Nina Colon, Andrea Lakovic, Olga Vergun, Rachel Gonzalez). I also have a great group of high school coaches who have been working my camps for last 3 years.

SFVR: Wow just imagine learning to hit from ALL-American Yarimar Rosa and top performers like Isadora Rangel. Learning to Set from a Top DIV 1 Setter like Natalia Valentine and playing with local Miami players such as Sabrina Gonzalez, Nina Colon & Rachel Gonzalez. A camper can also experience an international approach to volleball from players like Andrea Lakovic (Montenegro) and Olga Vergun (Ukraine). Not to mention that two time Sun-Belt Conference Coach of the year will personally give classes and pointers to all campers.

Note: All campers will receive a T-shirt & daily lunches will be provided. In addition campers will have the chance to win competition trophies.

SFVR: Will you offer individual skills camps?
TOMIC: Yes, we will have several skills camps that will be quite complete, for example:

At the Setter/Hitter Clinic, campers will work on honing their individual skills, followed by combined station where setters and hitters will work together on skills and tactics.

The Defense/Ball Control Clinic is designed for anyone who wants to improve their ball handling skills, and especially helpful for liberos and defensive specialists. Stations will focus on control skills and defensive tactics.

All clinic attendees will also receive a T-shirt.

SFVR: Will their be any discounts available?
TOMIC: Yes, Discounts Available:
Children of FIU employees: $20 discount
The second child signed up from the same immediate family: $20 discount
Attend both individual camps: $20 discount
Attend both clinics: $10 discount
